Dr. Narjes Rohani

My research seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms of brain disorders and translate that understanding into therapeutic opportunities. I integrate multi-omic data from human brain tissue across development with computational genomics and machine learning to determine how genetic variation is translated through gene-regulatory programs across time and cell types. A central focus is the discovery and functional testing of cis-regulatory regions in common and rare brain disorders, with the long-term goal of enabling more precise, mechanism-informed therapies.

01 · CURRENT

Brain disorders and therapy

I analyse large-scale multi-omic data from developing brain tissue to understand when and how disease mechanisms emerge, and to identify cis-regulatory elements that may be therapeutically actionable. The long-term goal is to make precision medicine for brain disorders more biologically grounded and more tractable.

02 · CURRENT

Regulatory genomics & functional validation

I use developmental multi-omics to connect disease-associated variation to the regulatory elements and cell states that shape brain phenotypes, then prioritise mechanisms that can be tested experimentally with functional perturbation.

03 · TRANSLATION & EDUCATION

Precision medicine, learning & public engagement

During my PhD I studied AI and learning analytics in precision medicine and health data science. I also develop accessible science communication, including Genes, Brains & Breakthroughs, an animated series explaining neurodevelopmental disorders and genomic research to patients and families.
